Sabine Chaouche studied at the University of Paris-Sorbonne and at The University of Oxford. In 1999 she completed there a PhD (Doctorat) with the félicitations du jury à l'unanimité (highest distinction). Six years later she completed a Higher Doctorate: Doctor of Letters (Habilitation) at the Sorbonne. Her primary expertise lies in theatre history (especially acting and staging). She has extensively published on early modern cultural, social and economic history. Her research at Oxford focuses on students' debt and consumption in nineteenth-century Oxford.
